Name
Breakout Session: Tribal Nations and the Clean Energy Gap
Date & Time
Wednesday, October 15, 2025, 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Description

Tribal nations in the United States face a significant energy gap, characterized by lack of access to the electrical grid or unreliable and expensive electricity for those connected. This energy gap is attributed to historical discriminative policies, geographical challenges, and infrastructure deficiencies, leading to overreliance on polluting, costly fossil fuels like diesel and propane. Tribal nations pay 56% higher electricity prices than the U.S. average and experience 6.5 times more outages, lasting three times longer than in the broader United States. However, many Tribes are ready to work alongside industry, with foundations in cultural sensitivity and understanding of Tribal governance, traditions, and community.
