Speaker Bio
Hotoahmeoona’e naa Votanaa’e Nahesevehe. My given Cheyenne names are Buffalo Trail Woman and Eagle Tailfeather Woman. My English name is Teanna Limpy. Heovonehe’e Nahestah. I am from the Muddy/Yellow Water district on the Northern Cheyenne Reservation. Voemeseke naa Nohenkahese are the families which I was born to. You will know you are in the land of my people when you see the Morning Star symbol adorned throughout the area. Our reservation lands provide for us plentiful natural and cultural resources, many springs, abundant berries and wildflowers, wildlife, and our very own buffalo herd. My people and I are very proud of the home our ancestors chose for us. You don’t have to look to far to hear our songs or stories. They are here with us. As a woman nurtured in this environment, along with culture and ceremony- it was destined that I would become so driven in cultural preservation work. I have served my nation in official capacity as the Tribal Historic Preservation Officer (THPO) for almost a decade now. My primary job duty is to serve as a regulatory agent for compliance with Section 106 compliance under the National Historic Preservation Act. Additionally, my office consults on all tribal and federal permitting process on our reservation and ancestral homelands. Being conscious of the world holistically is a skill that becomes natural a THPO like me. We are responsible for safeguarding our places for the future of our tribe, as well as protecting the integrity of the places our ancestors created. It’s our job to always listen and put those lessons into actual practice. When i’m not fighting for the right to secure our tribe a seat at the table in any permitting process, I am crafting beadwork, attending ceremony, going to traditional dances, and telling stories to the next generation of my family who will carry on these cultural lifeways, just like my mother and grandparents did for me.
